Surviving Law @ QUT

The first year experience of QUT law students

Hectic: characterised by intense activity, confusion or haste.

This week has been incredibly busy for me. I studied hard, worked hard (got a pay rise :) ), and caught up with friends. Today has been such a mission that I’m still awake writing this post because I still haven’t wound down from the day and my brain is still buzzing. Tonight at work this middle aged man came in and sat down by himself at a table. I took a menu and some water over to him and he had dozens of books, papers and articles spread all over the table (reminding me very much of my desk at home). Turns out upon some interesting conversation that the man is a professor and the author of several books, one which is coming out very soon. Funnily enough being a professor and all he was interested that I was a law student and we talked quickly (there were lots of other tables and not many waitresses) about ethics. Honestly, it made me feel quite important as this professor was interested in my opinion and was listening intently to what I had to say.

Another note: I have recently found out that many of the waitresses at my work are studying law. One of the girls is doing first year law at QUT also and one of the managers is a third year law student at UQ. So I guess I hit the jackpot, if I have any problems I have multiple resources to help me out..I hope everyone else has started to make some good friends/already have good friends or generally know people doing the course because I’m finding it extremely helpful to bounce my ideas off other people.

Good luck everyone with the emergence of the third week!
